The TTB has samples of neoplastic tissue and tissue from different organs and systems (liver, bowel, breast, kidney, etc.). It works in line with the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona Pathological Anatomy Service, and thus has access to paraffin blocks surplus to diagnostic requirements from more than1,800,000 donors, in order to make them available for biomedical research. The diagnoses available include carcinomas, sarcomas, lymphomas, benign neoplasms, germline and mixed neoplasms, metastases of various origins and malignant neoplasms of neurological origin.
Located at the IDIBAPS Esther Koplowitz Centre (CEK building), the Biobank coordinates the Catalan Tumour Bank Network, which was launched in 2006 as part of the Catalan Oncology Master Plan and includes the tumour banks of the biobanks at Catalonia’s main hospitals.
