Citizen and patient involvement events

Open Clínic, Saturday 11 May 2024.

The Campus Clínic opened its doors to the community in an interactive and festive day to showcase the activities carried out at the Campus Clínic, from the fields of care, research and teaching, as well as promoting healthy habits through numerous activities and workshops. It is estimated that the first edition of the Open Clínic was attended by some 5,000 people, with over 15,000 square metres of space dedicated to more than 100 activities, distributed over 4 stages and numerous points of interest. One of the workshops on offer was the most up-to-date version of our Escape Room, adapted to focus on diabetes. The activity, which sold out for the five sessions on offer, was also complemented by a guided tour of the Biobank facilities.

HCB-IDIBAPS Biobank Escape Room as a citizen engagement activity. 10-11/01/2023.

The Biobank has welcomed the scientists in the STEPUPIORS project, a European consortium of research institutions dedicated to defining predictive and prognostic biomarkers in rectal cancer, with our Escape Room adapted for English speakers.

Workshop on DNA sample controls. 8/05/2023

First edition of the workshop on the control of DNA samples at the Biobank, aimed at students in the 4th year of ESO (Year 11 in the UK) at the Institut Escola Pla de l’Avellà (https://iepladelavella.cat/). They were able to learn basic concepts about biobanks and DNA sample control for proper traceability and technical verification.

Science Generation 2022. 16-17/11/2022

Second edition of the Escape Room and the visit to the Biobank, with intriguing narrative, in collaboration with the Science Communication Agency Eduscopi and the IDIBAPS Communications Department. The students did not hesitate and became a group of science professionals and successfully completed a series of tests, in order to help the COVIDBANK to process the blood samples correctly and, with these samples, to identify a suspect in a crime. The aim of the workshop is to teach students about the role of the COVIDBANK in the collaboration with research on COVID-19.

Science Generation 2021. 16-17/11/2021

In November 2021, as part of Science Week 2021, IDIBAPS organized an edition of the Science Generation activity for secondary school students.

The workshops were carried out in the gardens in the Beatriu de Pinós Eixample block interior (C/ Rosselló 149-153 Barcelona), the inner courtyard behind the Esther Koplowitz Centre, where IDIBAPS has its headquarters. The approximately 250 secondary school students, from 10 Catalan schools, who attended the event, took part in the “Emergency in the COVIDBANK” Escape Room and visited our Biobank to learn more about our scientific platform and how we collect and process biological samples for research, in this case related to SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19.
