Catalogue of samples and associated data

The HCB-IDIBAPS Biobank mainly manages sample collections from the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, in collaboration with research units and clinical, care and diagnostic services. It can also participate in and coordinate multicentre collections.  The current catalogue of samples and associated data is made up of various cohorts that are grouped according to the systems involved, and is maintained thanks to the Biobank’s collaboration with promoting research groups:

1. Samples and associated data related to diseases of the digestive system and the metabolism

Diabetes and associated metabolic diseases

Cohort started in 2007, with biological samples and associated data of patients diagnosed with diabetes, obesity and dyslipidaemia.  Multicentre cohort promoted by:

Gastrointestinal and pancreatic oncology (2008)

Cohort started in 2008. Biological samples and associated data from patients diagnosed with gastric, colorectal and pancreatic neoplasms, as well as people at risk of developing these types of cancer and family members of the affected patients. Promoted by:

Inflammatory bowel diseases

Multicentre cohort started in 2008. Biological samples and associated data from patients diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Promoted by:

Hepatic vascular diseases

Cohort started in 2012. Biological samples and associated data from patients diagnosed with Budd-Chiari syndrome, cirrhosis, idiopathic portal hypertension, portal venous thrombosis, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, Caroli disease, porto-sinusoidal vascular disease, congenital hepatic fibrosis, autoimmune hepatitis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome, as well as patients undergoing transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) procedures and hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) measurements. Cohort promoted by:

2. Samples and associated data related to diseases of the nervous system

Neurodegenerative diseases  Cohort active since 1990, with biological samples and associated data from patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, frontotemporal dementia and prion diseases.
Psychiatric diseases

Cohort started in 2009 for biological samples and associated data from patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depression. In 2021, it started to include biological samples and data from patients with Tourette’s syndrome. Promoted by:

3. Samples and associated data related to diseases of the cardiovascular system

Cardiac and cardiovascular diseases

Cohort of samples and associated data from patients with cardiac and cardiovascular disease, of genetic origin, such as tetralogy of Fallot (collection started in 2019); and with pulmonary hypertension in cardiac diseases (collection started in 2022); and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and myocarditis (collection started in 2022). Cohort promoted by:  :

4. Samples and associated data related to diseases of the respiratory system
