Treatment of Gestational Diabetes at the Clínic

Reading time: 1 min

At the Hospital Clínic Barcelona Gynaecology and Obstetrics Unit (Maternity headquarters), around 3,200 women are seen each year on a regular basis. Around 7% of these women have gestational diabetes with 30% requiring insulin treatment.

The Gynaecology and Obstetrics Unit and the Diabetes Unit are pioneers and have extensive experience in the following procedures:

  • Diagnosis and monitoring of women with gestational diabetes.
  • Obstetric and endocrinological follow-up of patients with gestational diabetes and type 1 diabetes.
  • Design of educational material for people with gestational diabetes.

The different meal plans used in recent years in the follow-up and care of women with gestational diabetes were recently updated.

In this update, different meal plans were developed by taking into account different caloric intakes and 2 food modalities: omnivorous and vegan.

The diet to be followed prior to carrying out Oral Glucose Load (OGL) was also updated.
