Living with Leptospirosis

If you have a fever of over 38°C following travel to a tropical zone, especially after swimming, aquatic activities or contact with flood water, you are advised to urgently go to a health centre in order to be diagnosed and be given suitable treatment.    

The following is recommended:   

Bottle of water

Stay well hydrated. 

Medicines, pills

Take paracetamol to lower the fever.

Pill with warning sign

Do not take aspirin and, as far as is possible, avoid taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen).

Reasons to go to A&E

Person with jaundice or yellowing of the skin and mucous membranes

Yellowing of the skin or eyes.  

Standing person with abdominal pain

Intense abdominal pain.  

Brain with a marked area

Neurological changes, amongst others.
