Leptospirosis Transmission

Reading time: 1 min

Leptospirosis is transmitted by contact with water contaminated by leptospira bacteria. These bacteria reach the water through dog, pig or rat urine. Contagion occurs through contact between contaminated water and skin wounds, consuming contaminated water, splashing in the eyes, etc.

The risk is associated with certain recreational aquatic activities and increases in the context of floods or the aftermath of natural disasters.
