Diagnostic tests for Bronchiectasis

The main test to diagnose bronchiectasis is:

Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI machine

Computed tomography (CT), to see if the bronchi are dilated.

Other necessary tests are:

Forced spirometry with bronchodilator test

Spirometry, to measure lung function: that is, the amount of air the lungs can hold (air volume) and the speed of inhalation and exhalation during breathing (air flow rate).

Microscope

Microbiological analysis of respiratory samples, to look for bacteria and other types of germs.
