Bronchiectasis treatment at the Clínic

Reading time: 1 min

The Bronchiectasis Unit at the Clínic belongs to the Pulmonology Department and it has been recognised by Catsalut as a Clinical Experience Unit in Minor Respiratory Diseases for the diagnosis and treatment of idiopathic bronchiectasis (when the cause is not known). Other departments, such as Radiology, Microbiology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, are also involved in the control and monitoring of these patients.

Approximately 200 new cases of bronchiectasis are diagnosed each year.

Currently, over 1,000 patients with bronchiectasis are treated in outpatient clinics and/or in Pulmonology clinics at the different Primary Care Centres (CAP) of the Integrated Health Care Area Barcelona Esquerra (AISBE).

As a reference centre and clinical experience unit, the Pulmonology Department can offer phase 2 and phase 3 clinical trials of new drugs with potential use for patients with bronchiectasis.
