Bronchiectasis research at the Clínic

Reading time: 1 min

Several research projects are carried out at the Clínic Barcelona, which are developed at the Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), specifically in the Inflammation and repair in respiratory diseases group.

The lines of research are focused mainly on the study of the immune system (the body's defences) in relation to chronic bronchial infections, analysis of the different molecular patterns of bronchiectasis and its response to different treatments.

The hospital participates in studies at the local, state and European level.

We also collaborate with the Spanish Bronchiectasis Registry (RIBRON) and the European Bronchiectasis Registry (EMBARC).

The Inflammation and repair in respiratory diseases group has led studies in demonstrating the role of certain proteins (called antimicrobial peptides or AMPs) in protecting against chronic bronchial infections.

In addition, we have participated in studies to evaluate the effect of new treatments (antibiotics and anti-inflammatories) in patients with bronchiectasis, obtaining positive results.
