Research - Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology Service

The research activity of the Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology Service is carried out through the August Pi Sunyer Institute for Biomedical Research (IDIBAPS).

Each section or working group of the Service has its own lines of research. The members of the Service are currently directing 14 doctoral theses from both members of the Service itself and from other specialists in the country.

The Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology Service of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona sets the benchmark for quality in septic pathology and one-step prosthetic substitutions, among other services, and has underway projects for improvement in the fields of robotics and 3D technology as applied to joint prostheses.

The main lines of research of the Service are:

  • One-step septic prosthetic substitutions.
  • Acetabular defects.
  • Rapid recovery in knee and hip prostheses.
  • Antibiotic prophylaxis in TOC.
  • Application of 3D technology in knee prostheses
