Organization - Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology Service

The Hospital Clínic’s Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology Service strives to offer excellence in its specialty in all fields: healthcare, teaching, research and innovation and clinical management.

The main objective of the Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology Service is to provide patients who have musculoskeletal disorders with efficient, high-quality medical care, based on the available scientific evidence.

Patients come, above all, from the Integral Health Area of Barcelona Esquerra (AISBE), but it is also the definitive center for highly complex pathology in the so-called Area C-17 (hospitals in Mollet, Granollers, Sant Celoni and Vic) as well as in other centers in Catalonia. Patients access the Service from the Emergency Department, from External Consultations and from Specialized Primary Care Consultations, where patients referred from the 17 outpatient clinics in the area of influence are cared for. Patients with highly complex pathologies also arrive through direct consultation from other hospitals.

The Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology Service carries out 24,000 visits each year and all types of surgical operations in the specialty. The Service has 50 hospital beds and performs 3,200 surgeries each year.

The TOC Service, made up of 46 specialists and 15 residents, is organized into four Sections and two working groups:

  • Traumatology Section
  • Knee Section
  • Hip Section
  • Upper Limb Section - Arthroscopy
  • Foot and Ankle Working Group
  • Spine and Tumors Working Group
