Research - Internal Medicine Service

The Internal Medicine Service carries out its research, for the most part, through the August Pi i Sunyer Institute for Biomedical Research (IDIBAPS), specifically in the groups:

  • Muscle research and mitochondrial function
  • Cardiovascular risk, nutrition and aging

The Service participates in the following lines of research:

  • Organic injuries from alcohol consumption
  • Nutrition, vascular risk and aging
  • Muscle pathology and mitochondrial functionalism
  • Atrial fibrillation unit
  • Care unit for adult patients with congenital metabolic errors
  • Sepsis in intensive care units

Researchers from the Service have participated in projects funded by different official entities: FIS, European Scholarships, scientific societies, TV3 Marathon Scholarships, CIBER, etc. In addition, they are accredited by the Generalitat de Catalunya's Agency for the Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR) as a Consolidated Research Group (GRC) with funding.

The scientific output of the various groups has been significant, with a total cumulative impact factor (IF) in 2017 of 351,309 points.
