There is a vaccine against tuberculosis (BCG), although it is only effective in cases in which tuberculosis affects organs other than the lungs in children. BCG vaccination has not been used in Catalonia since the 1980s.

Green, blue and white striped tablets

Tuberculosis can also be prevented by administering an antibiotic or combination of antibiotics. This preventive therapy is administered to people who have recently been infected (household contacts of people with the disease) or who belong to a group at risk of the disease (people living with HIV).
