Treatment of Lacrimal System Diseases

Reading time: 1 min

Infections are treated with antibiotics, normally in the form of drops, and also orally in more serious cases.

Lacrimal obstructions are treated with surgery. The most commonly performed operations are opening the lacrimal puncta (punctoplasty), and dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) in cases of lower obstructions. DCR can be performed externally, endonasally or using laser, depending on the case and the surgeon's and patient's preferences.
