Symptoms of Incisional Hernia or Eventration

Reading time: 1 min

Eventration usually has no symptoms. However, if left untreated, it can increase in size over time and cause discomfort during physical exertion and/or after eating, when the bowel dilates.

Symptoms include the presence of a soft lump or deformity in the abdominal wall, at or near the scar, often accompanied by pain or discomfort.

In more serious situations, there may be intestinal occlusion, strangulation, or the viscera may become trapped (incarceration), all of which require urgent surgery.
