Research - Psychiatry and Psychology Service

The research activity of the Service is carried out through the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS), in various groups in the area of Clinical and Experimental Neurosciences.

The main objective is to deepen the knowledge of the aspects of epidemiology (how many people it affects), risk factors, prognostic factors, etiopathogenesis (origin and causes) and treatment of the main mental disorders. The groups are as follows:

The main lines of epidemiological, clinical and experimental research developed in the Service are related to the study of the following mental disorders:

  • Bipolar disorder
  • Addictive Behaviors
  • Schizophrenia
  • Depression and Anxiety
  • Perinatal Mental Health
  • Psychopathology and Gender
  • Medical and Psychiatric Pathology

The research of the Service is also carried out by the Affective Disorders Group and the Schizophrenia Group of the Mental Health Network Biomedical Research Center.

Several researchers from the Service participate in the Addictive Disorders Network, which is funded by the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs and the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

In 2018, more than 50 research projects were carried out with the help of external funding.
