The health care activity of the Renal Nephrology and Transplant Service covers the whole spectrum of kidney disease and kidney replacement treatment options. From the functional and structural point of view it participates in the work of the following Units:

The Service is organized into the following sections:

  • Kidney Transplant
  • Dialysis
  • Therapeutic apheresis

Patient care is provided both in the outpatient setting (outpatient clinics, the Day Hospital or in the dialysis section) and in the hospital setting (in the nephrology room and in the Intermediate Care Unit). Nephrological care also has an important cross-cutting component, so the Service treats the renal complications of outpatients or those admitted to other services, both in conventional units and in Intensive Care Units.

The health care spectrum covers all areas of nephrology such as:

  • Chronic kidney disease and its complications
  • Acute renal failure, intensive care nephrology
  • Acute and chronic glomerulonephritis, primary and secondary
  • Tubular-interstitial diseases of the kidney
  • Vascular diseases of the kidney
  • High blood pressure
  • Hereditary kidney disease
  • Metabolic aspects of kidney stones
  • Vascular access for hemodialysis
  • Acute and chronic hemodialysis
  • Continuous renal replacement therapies
  • Peritoneal dialysis
  • Kidney transplant: waiting list management and post-transplant complications
    • Kidney donor transplant
    • Living donor kidney transplant
    • Incompatible kidney transplantation (ABO, HLA)
    • Cross kidney transplant
    • Combined kidney transplant (liver-kidney, heart-kidney)
    • High complexity kidney transplant
    • Kidney transplantation in HIV patients
  • Isolated renopancreatic or pancreatic transplant: waiting list management and post-transplant complications
