Research in the Molecular Biochemistry and Genetics Service is translational in nature (i.e., research aimed at translating [converting] results in basic research into results that directly benefit humans) and aims to provide knowledge and innovative solutions to improve the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of patients. The healthcare professionals of the Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Service carry out a high level of research and innovation activity, both in the hospital and at the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS). Several researchers from the Service are also part of the Network Biomedical Research Center of the Carlos III Institute of Health.
At IDIBAPS, research is conducted in the areas of Liver, Digestive System and Metabolism, Respiratory, Cardiovascular and Renal Biopathology and Bioengineering, Clinical and Experimental Neuroscience, and Oncology and Hematology.
Specifically, research is conducted inthe following groups:
In relation to the Network Biomedical Research Center of the Carlos III Institute of Health, the Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Service is present at CIBERehd (Liver and Digestive Diseases) and CIBERer (Rare Diseases), as well as participating in the main strategic lines of consolidated research. In 2018, members of the Service published more than 70 manuscripts in journals with a cumulative impact factor (FI) of almost 500 points.
