On May 21, the kick-off meeting of the KAIROS-FORTALECE project took place, where, thanks to 6 research groups from Clínic-IDIBAPS, cutting-edge technologies, including single-cell analysis, 3D models, organoids, advanced therapies, and computational and artificial intelligence approaches, will be incorporated and further developed.
The event was held at the Esteve Auditorium of IDIBAPS, where Pilar Gayoso, Deputy Director General of Evaluation and Promotion of Research at the Carlos III Institute, and Elías Campo, Director of IDIBAPS, gave the welcome address. Afterwards, Strategy Director Michela Bertero presented the key points of the program along with the heads of the involved groups. Some members of the Patient Advisory Group also participated, helping to define aspects to align the program with patient needs.

“It is expected that this program will have a catalytic effect for other IDIBAPS groups and the institution’s Scientific and Technical Platforms, fostering new interdisciplinary research and innovation projects within IDIBAPS itself and also in collaboration both nationally and internationally,” comments Michela Bertero, “furthermore, the involvement of the Patient Advisory Group will allow us to include patients' perspectives in our research lines.”
Elías Campo highlights the collaboration and commitment of the involved groups, the integration of the proposals with IDIBAPS's Transversal Multidisciplinary Programs and Core Facilities, and the alignment with the institution's strategic plan.
The Fortalece-Salud program
This program has been promoted by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities through the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII). A total of 30 million euros have been allocated to strengthen research groups from 12 Health Research Institutes (IIS) accredited by ISCIII.
The objective of this program is to multiply the research and knowledge transfer capacities of these selected groups and thus respond to the health priorities of the citizens.
