The Biomedicine International Training Research Programme for Excellent Clinician-Scientists (BITRECS) is an IDIBAPS fellowship programme allowing postdoctoral researchers with a ‘clinical-scientist’ profile to dedicate themselves intensively to biomedical research for 28 months through a project actively led by an IDIBAPS group. The programme also provides high-level professional training so the beneficiary will eventually become a leader in their area of specialisation.
The third call, which opened in April 2025, offers three fellowships. The Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) is responsible for securing financial support to the initiative within the framework of its Excellence Program (Code: EPAEC246711CLIN).
Each position is focused on a specific line of research:
- Pioneering strategies to maximize the efficacy of immunotherapy in malignant lymphoid diseases
- Pioneering strategies to maximize the efficacy of immunotherapy in liver cancer
- Pioneering strategies to maximize the efficacy of immunotherapy in breast cancer

The first edition of BITRECS began in 2017 and received funding from the European Commission and Fundació ”la Caixa”. It brought on seven clinician-scientists. The second edition, funded by Fundació ”la Caixa”, began in 2024 and added a researcher.
