The research carried out at the Center for Biomedical Diagnosis (CBD) is internationally recognized and its main objective is to understand the fundamentals of health and disease in order to transfer this knowledge to the clinical laboratory and care for patients. To achieve this goal, the research studies and the healthcare needs of each Service in the CBD must be aligned.

The research is mostly carried out at the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS).

The consolidated strategic lines of research are as follows:

  • Study of the molecular mechanisms involved in the development and progression of neoplasms
  • Identification of somatic mutations involved in the mechanisms of sensitivity and / or resistance to drugs directed at solid tumors
  • Molecular basis of antibiotic resistance in multidrug-resistant bacteria
  • Design of new antimicrobial agents
  • Pathogenesis, diagnostic markers and monitoring of viral infection
  • Pathogenesis and treatment of immunomediated pathologies
  • Immunotherapy
  • Determination and characterization of infectious causes of death
  • Phenotypic and genotypic study of mutations associated with antiviral resistance
  • Transplant immunology
  • Study of pharmacodynamic and pharmacogenetic biomarkers in response to immunosuppressive treatment
  • Metabolomics
  • Pathogenesis of inherited metabolic diseases
  • Pathophysiology of alterations in cardiovascular, hepatic and renal function
  • Mechanisms of tissue remodeling regulation in liver and heart disease
  • Exploration of new diagnostic and therapeutic methods in fibrosis and cancer
  • Development of personalized cellular therapeutic products
  • Deep learning in the classification of blood cells
