Research into Thyroid Nodules at Hospital Clínic

Reading time: 1 min

At the research level, Hospital Clínic participates in the LUCA project (Laser and Ultrasound Co-Analyser for thyroid nodules), with European funding (H2020). This involves a multimodal device that combines two diffuse optics technologies (TRS and DCS) and ultrasound into a single transducer for studying the thyroid nodule and differentially diagnosing malignant and benign nodules.

This project is planned in collaboration with the Institut de Ciències Fotòniques (ICFO), affiliated to the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). The other participants include the Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI - Italy), Hemophotonics SL (HEMOEspaña), VERMON SA (VERMON - France), ECM Echo Control Medical (ECM - France), the University of Birmingham (UoB - UK), and the European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR - Austria).

Hospital Clínic also participates in a study into the molecular basis of thyroid cancer of familial origin.
