Research into Thyroid nodules

The main lines of research into thyroid nodules are focused on: 

  • Evaluating the use of ablative therapy for nodule reduction with lasers, radiofrequency, microwaves and high-intensity–focused ultrasound (HIFU).  
  • Less invasive thyroid surgery where the nodule is accessed via the transaxillary route and the oral cavity. 
  • Evaluating radiological and cytological criteria that help to more precisely differentiate between benign and malignant nodules, to avoid unnecessary surgery on nodules that are actually benign.
