Research into Sleep Apnoea

Reading time: 1 min

The group’s main lines of research focus on the following points:

  • The use of rodent models to uncover and better understand the basic aspects of the disease and its clinical consequences. Specifically, the team is working on hypoxia/normoxia models, vascular anomalies and the role of sleep apnoea in carcinogenesis.
  • Clinical aspects of the disease. In collaboration with the Spanish sleep research group, they are studying the relationship between SAHS and kidney disease and neoplasms, as well as the use of simplified techniques to diagnose sleep apnoea syndrome.
  • The technological and clinical assessment of mechanical ventilation is one of the most important areas at the moment.
  • Telemedicine as a means of managing patients with sleep apnoea syndrome or hypoventilation that requires non-invasive mechanical ventilation. The aim is to develop a cost-effective channel in order to reach more patients. To this end, new applications and a virtual laboratory are under development.
