Treatment of Pneumothorax at the Clínic

Reading time: 1 min

The Hospital Clínic treats an average of 3-5 patients with pneumothorax per week. Treatment with a small calibre drain was introduced in clinical practice after studies at the Clínic in the late 80s.

Research lines focus on the different ways of performing pleurodesis (abrasive, chemical or pleurectomy), with an ongoing research project. In addition, the Thoracic Surgery Unit has been involved since 1997 in writing and updating three Pneumothorax diagnosis and treatment regulations for the Scientific Association, SEPAR, and the last for the European Thoracic Surgery Association (ESTS) in 2019.

Various training courses related to the surgical treatment of pneumothorax have also been carried out.

The donations that can be done through this webpage are exclusively for the benefit of Hospital Clínic of Barcelona through Fundació Clínic per a la Recerca Biomèdica and not for BBVA Foundation, entity that collaborates with the project of PortalClínic.
