There are anthropological aspects such as age, size and weight, but also toxic factors such as smoking and its destructive action on pulmonary parenchyma that increase the risk of developing pneumothorax by up to 20 times.

Lung diseases, such as COPD, cystic fibrosis and interstitial pulmonary diseases, among others, have been related to the appearance of secondary pneumothorax.
