Research at Clínic

Research is one of the three main activities of academic medical centres such as the Hospital Clínic, along with healthcare and teaching.  

Health research is an essential component to extend the quality of life and improve knowledge about diseases. That is why the Surgery Department at the Barcelona Hospital Clínic promotes and implements different research projects related to peritoneal carcinomatosis.  

These projects include analysis of the results of patients operated on in routine clinical practice (together with two other centres in Catalonia), as well as complex prospective projects where diagnostic, treatment, monitoring and prevention techniques are evaluated. This is all performed while informing participants at all times, with the need for approval by the Hospital Ethics Committee, according to the Declaration of Helsinki principles and Good Clinical Practice guidelines, within the requirements of the Spanish Law and the State Regulatory Authority.
