The exact incidence of peritoneal carcinomatosis is not known, as existing studies have not yet provided reliable data. Secondary peritoneal carcinomatosis is the most frequent.

Among patients with ovarian cancer, up to 75% have peritoneal metastasis at the time of diagnosis.

Among people with gastric cancer, up to 14% have peritoneal dissemination at initial diagnosis.

The presence of this carcinoma has been described in 4-8% of patients with colorectal carcinoma. In addition, up to 20% of these patients are diagnosed more than 6 months after the appearance of the first tumour.
