Prognosis of Inguinal or Crural Hernias

Reading time: 1 min

Relapse of inguino-crural hernia is very low when mesh is used: 1-6%. Patients usually recover quickly. They must wait around three weeks before they can engage in intense physical activity.

The main medium-/long-term postoperative issue is chronic pain, which has two components: sensory nerve damage and the activity of the mesh itself.

Nowadays, thanks to mesh containing less synthetic material, very careful surgical dissections that respect the nerves and good postoperative pain management, this complication has decreased significantly.
