Diagnosis of Inguinal or Crural Hernias

A diagnosis is made using a physical examination. Imaging studies are only performed in doubtful cases, for example in people with obesity or severe groin pain without a visible lump, or following prior surgery in that area.

Ultrasound is the most commonly used technique, and CT scans are only used in rare cases.
