Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease symptoms

The most common digestive symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) are:

Pyrosis

Pyrosis. Heartburn or a pain behind the sternum (retrosternal), which can move upward and radiate to other locations such as the neck, pharynx and, sometimes, the back.

Regurgitation

Regurgitation. Passage of a liquid with an acidic or sour taste into the mouth. It differs from vomiting because it ascends passively without being preceded by nausea.

Sore throat when swallowing (odynophagia).

Nausea and vomiting.

Hiccups

Hiccups.

Dysphagia, difficulty to swallow

Difficulty swallowing food (dysphagia).

Other non-digestive symptoms are:

Chest pain of a non-cardiac origin. It resembles angina pectoris and is described as tightness or burning behind the sternum (retrosternal pain), radiating to the back, neck, jaw and arm. The pain is often worse after meals and can last for minutes or hours. It generally clears up spontaneously or is alleviated with antacids.

Coughing.

Person with dysphonia

Laryngitis and dysphonia.
