Living with Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease

Reading time: 1 min

Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) affects the quality of life of patients, not so much due to the severity of the inflammation of the mucosa but due to the persistence of symptoms, which impact the physical and mental health of the patient and sleep quality.

The main objectives of pharmacological or surgical treatment are to control symptoms and avoid long-term complications.

Good health and dietary measures are essential in the control of this disease:

Plate with food crossed out

Avoiding heavy meals.

Scale with a down arrow indicating a weight loss

Losing weight if overweight.

Person stretched out in bed with head elevated

Keeping your head raised in bed and avoiding falling asleep straight after meals.

Beer mug and joint crossed out; no drug consumption

Stopping or reducing alcohol and tobacco use.
