Chikungunya symptoms are similar to those of a dengue infection. This phase of the illness usually lasts no more than 10 days. In some cases, joint pain can last for a longer period of time, or can reappear intermittently for a few months.

Although it rarely causes death, the symptoms of chikungunya can be serious and incapacitating.
