Reading time: 1 min

It most commonly presents as an acute illness and its course is limited in terms of time.

There may be complications in a small percentage of cases:

  • The most common complication is prolonged duration of joint pain. Anti-inflammatories are initially administered, but if symptoms persist the patient will be assessed by the Rheumatology Department. This is a complication that may limit the activities of daily life.

  • Some rare complications: neurological, ocular, cardiovascular, dermatological, renal and respiratory.
