Bullying affects all the children involved, both active participants and witnesses.

Children who are bullied

Children who are bullied are more likely to present:

  • Poorer academic performance.
  • A greater tendency to miss school or drop out.
  • Mental health problems such as depression and anxiety.

Children who bully others

Kids who bully are more likely to present:

  • Dropping out of school.
  • Alcohol and drug abuse in adolescence and adulthood.
  • Fighting and vandalism.
  • Early sexual activity.
  • Abusive behaviour toward their partners or children as adults.

Children who witness bullying are more likely to present:

  • Missing school.
  • Increased use of tobacco, alcohol, or other drugs.
  • Increased mental health problems such as depression and anxiety.
