Research - Thoracic Surgery Service
The Thoracic Surgery Service leads various research actions and has an outstanding involvement in basic and translational research that covers the whole specialty.
The Service's research is carried out through the Respiratory, Cardiovascular and Renal Biopathology and Bioengineering Area of the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS). Specifically, it develops the research activity in the group:
The Service also participates in the Respiratory Diseases Research Group CB06/06/0021, of the Center for Biomedical Research in the Respiratory Diseases Network (CIBERES).
Main lines of research
The main lines of research focus on the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of lung cancer, as it is the type of cancer with the highest mortality rate, as well as on the devices used in surgery. Collaborating with the Biophysics Unit at the Faculty of Medicine and the Human Anatomy and Embryology Unit (Molecular Biology) within the Department of Surgery and Medical-Surgical Specialties.
Service members are principal investigators in competitive research projects and with major scientific societies within the specialty.
