YouTube launched “YouTube Health” in Spain to provide some rigorous medical information to combat misinformation. Moreover, the Hospital Clínic, Barcelona is playing a fundamental role in this initiative, through the PortalClínic project funded by the BBVA Foundation. The health centre is one of the institutions that will provide verified, accessible medical content for the platform.
YouTube, the second biggest search engine worldwide, has launched this initiative to disseminate health content by prioritising authorised, reliable sources. Misinformation in a digital environment can put public health at risk, so it is essential that health institutions promote the dissemination of trustworthy content. The videos that are part of this initiative will be clearly identified with labels that will indicate their authorised source.
Some of the main health institutions in Spain, including the Hospital Clínic, Barcelona and the Gregorio Marañón Hospital, will provide their content in the form of videos. Thus, the PortalCLÍNIC digital project, which already has more than 1,000 videos on the YouTube platform, will be of great importance.
This launch is a step forward in creating a safer digital environment, and the Hospital Clínic, Barcelona alongside PortalCLÍNIC are now an important ally in the fight against misinformation; offering reliable resources to millions of people.
