The Clínic's Institute of Nephrology and Urology

The Clínic's Institute of Nephrology and Urology is the area of the Hospital Clínic responsible for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of nephrourological diseases.

The Institute works to provide patients with quality treatment in accordance with the highest health care standards, within the framework of a hospital that combines experience and innovation. It is a reference center for kidney and urinary tract diseases that require innovative therapies or complex surgery.

The ICNU has two hospital wards, an Intermediate Care Unit, a Day Hospital, a Urology Diagnostic Unit, a General Hemodialysis Room, an HBV Carrier Hemodialysis Unit, an Outpatient Assisted Dialysis Unit (DIRAC), a Peritoneal Dialysis Unit and a Therapeutic Apheresis Unit.

The group of more than 180 professionals working at ICNU is made up of medical, nursing and administrative staff who carry out 3,500 hospital discharges each year, more than 2,000 surgeries, and more than 150 kidney or pancreas-kidney transplants. They are also responsible for bringing about a progressive implantation of robotic surgery.

On an outpatient basis, ICNU handles more than 33,000 visits and 4,000 patients to the Day Hospital each year.

The Hospital Clínic is a reference center (CSUR) of the National Health System for:

  • Cross-donor kidney transplant
  • Kidney transplant of pancreas
  • Minority kidney disease

Team of professionals

The ICNU is made up of more than 180 professionals, including medical, nursing and administrative staff. It is primarily made up of specialists in urology and nephrology, but also includes digestive surgeons, haematologists, endocrinologists, radiologists, pathologists, oncologists, pharmacologists, psychologists, nutritionists, physiotherapists, transplant coordinators, physicists and biologists.
