Faecal Microbiota Transplantation at the Clinic

Reading time: 1 min

The Clínic Barcelona Hospital has a Microbiota Bank where donors are recruited, faeces donations and treatments are prepared to perform a faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in complete safety.

An indication for FMT is made by a multidisciplinary team with specialists from the Infectious Diseases, Gastroenterology and Microbiology Departments, who assess the suitability of the treatment and the appropriate type of administration on an individual basis.

Those patients who agree to receive FMT have to sign an informed consent form before the procedure. The visit to perform the colonoscopy or administer the capsules is scheduled with the Gastroenterology Department. Follow-up after FMT is performed by the Infectious Diseases Department.
