Rickettsiosis prognosis

Reading time: 1 min

Rickettsiosis are generally harmless diseases that leave no after-effects. In a small percentage of cases, there may be complications in the form of vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels) and multiple organ failure.

The risk of complications is related to certain species of Rickettsia, old age and certain diseases such as a glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficit and immunosuppression.

A delay in diagnosis and the start of suitable treatment may also make complications more likely to arise.
