Treatment of Persistent Corneal Ulcers

Reading time: 1 min

Treatment is determined by the cause of the persistent corneal ulcer.

The conventional treatment is the use of lubricants or contact lenses. Also used are eye drops and blood derivatives and autologous serums that have plasma rich in growth factors; these are deficient due to the dry eyes being caused by ulcers.

The use of amniotic membranes can reconstruct and treat injuries of the eye surface. Corneal limbus stem cell autotransplantation is also performed in cases of unilateral ulcers, as well as allogeneic limbus transplantation from a deceased donor.

The donations that can be done through this webpage are exclusively for the benefit of Hospital Clínic of Barcelona through Fundació Clínic per a la Recerca Biomèdica and not for BBVA Foundation, entity that collaborates with the project of PortalClínic.
