Prognosis for Persistent Corneal Ulcers

Reading time: 1 min

The development of the disease is determined by its cause. However, if the ulcer heals (depending on how long this takes), visual sequelae are often significant, as stromal scarring creates an opacity and irregular astigmatism that causes impaired vision. The severe form of the disease occurs when there is a loss of corneal stem cells and atrophy of sensory nerve endings.
