Prevention

• For health personnel: follow the current Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), which includes individual protection measures, at all times when dealing with suspicious cases.
• For patients: there are prevention and isolation measures. For now, infected people are isolating themselves either in hospital or at home.
• For everyone: maintain basic, general hygiene rules, especially regarding the hands. Avoid physical contact and sexual relations with symptomatic people.  

Due to it being an ongoing epidemiological situation, one should be prudent and follow basic prevention rules.

Health professionals are recommended to maintain a high degree of alertness for people with symptoms or injuries that may be due to monkeypox, and should report them according to established internal procedures while acting according to the appropriate SOPs.

Once the epidemiological and virological investigation is completed, a better idea of the origin of the outbreaks and risk factors of this infection will be obtained. This may take weeks and involve rigorous contact tracing and genomic analysis of the isolated virus.

The Health Department in Catalonia has indicated that cases classified as suspicious by the Catalonia Epidemiological Surveillance Network (XVEC) must be reported to the Health Alerts and Emergencies Coordination Centre (CCAES).

For reasons of procedure and privacy, no details can be given on the evolution of these cases and only confirmed cases will be reported.
