Half of patients with colorectal carcinoma have liver metastases during the course of the disease The prognosis of the disease mainly depends on treatment; since, without it, the average survival of patients is less than 8 months.

Surgery with curative intent together with chemotherapy have managed to increase 5-year survival to more than half of the treated population.
