Treatment of Flu

Symptomatic treatment. This treatment is indicated to alleviate the symptoms in healthy patients with a mild to moderate infection. The patient should stay hydrated and rest, while fever, cough and any other symptoms are monitored.

Medicines, pills

Treatment with antivirals. This treatment is indicated for patients with serious infections or those with immune system problems or risk factors, which increase the risk of developing complications. Treatment should be initiated as soon as possible and ideally within 48 hours of the onset of flu symptoms to obtain greater clinical benefit.

Drug crossed out

Antibiotics are not effective. Patients with the flu should not take antibiotics, as these have no effect against influenza or any viruses.
