Teaching and Training - Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology Service

The Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology Service leads several teaching activities. Five doctors in the Service are Doctors of Medicine. At the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona (UB), projects are coordinated through the Department of Medicine, Preventive Medicine and the Public Health Unit. In undergraduate teaching, the Service is responsible for coordinating two required subjects: Introduction to Health, Anthropology, Demography and History of Medicine (6 ECTS in the first year), and Preventive Medicine, Public Health and Applied Statistics (9 ECTS in the fifth year). The Service also participates in the teaching of the Degrees in Nursing, Biomedical Sciences and Biomedical Engineering along with subjects related to its area of knowledge.

The Service welcomes and trains MIR residents in the specialty:

The Service ranks first in Spain in the ranking of specialty preferences. Two MIR places are offered each year. The Service has two accredited MIR tutors (Dr. Maria Jesús Bertran and Dr. Anna Vilella).

The training plan has been restructured and organised in recent years. On the one hand, it should be borne in mind that the MIRs in the speciality do a large number of rotations in different departments of the Teaching Unit (Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya, CAPSBE, SMPiE, International Health and other areas of the Hospital Clínic), and on the other hand, it tries to offer as many opportunities as possible to do regulated external rotations in local, national (AEMPS, Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality) and international (WHO / WHO, ECDC, PAHO, others) organisations.
