Organization - Plastic Surgery Service

The Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery Service of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona is made up of health professionals from two specialties: Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. This second specialty has its own Section. Both work autonomously for most procedures. The Service works in coordination with the Breast Cancer Unit.

The main activity of Plastic Surgery is breast reconstruction, followed by the repair of defects in soft parts of the body. The Surgery Service is composed of very specific areas, including that of sex reassignment surgery, a procedure the Hospital Clínic was the first public center in Catalonia to perform. It is also the definitive center for the treatment of facial lipoatrophy.

The activity of the Maxillofacial Surgery Section focuses mainly on the treatment of tumors of the oral cavity and salivary glands, as well as traumas affecting the facial skeleton. Moreover, tooth eruption disorders make up a significant number of outpatient procedures.
