For the seventh consecutive year, IDIBAPS has organised its summer science school. The activity will take place over three weeks, July 8 to 12, July 15 to 19 and July 22 to 26, and is aimed at children from 5 to 12 years of age. Most participants are the children of IDIBAPS and Hospital Clínic employees.
This year, 72 children will have fun while conducting experiments into density, the properties of water, how volcanoes work, meteorology and how medicines are encapsulated, among other subjects. They will also visit the Cosmocaixa science museum, where they will see such permanent exhibitions as the Flooded Forest, Fossils and the Universe Room.
The purpose of the summer school is to provide a service for the institution's employees who have young children and to assist with the work/life balance. The school also aims to awaken the children's interest in the world of science through experimentation and direct observation of the environment, encouraging critical thinking and creativity.
