The Clínic Barcelona’s Diagnostic Imaging Centre has launched the Biograph Vision.X scanner, from Siemens Healthineers, a state-of-the-art positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) system that has already started to be used on patients. It is the second system of its category in Europe and its advantages include the fact that it makes it possible to reduce scan time and the dose of radiation received by each patient. This is a very important contribution to personalized medicine and diagnostic precision.
Dr. David Fuster, Head of the Nuclear Medicine Service at the Clínic, explains that, “this equipment will allow us to respond to the demand for digital PET/CT tests, which has been growing in recent years, and thus avoid an increase in the waiting time for these tests, which is already under a great deal of strain”. He also adds that this equipment represents a major technological breakthrough in diagnostic imaging, which will be reflected in clinical areas as important as oncology, neurodegenerative diseases, and heart conditions, among others.
Since it is the fastest system in the industry, the Biograph Vision.X offers unprecedented image resolution and sensitivity. This results in a more detailed view of biological processes in the body and allows for earlier and more accurate detection of pathologies. It also facilitates highly precise diagnoses and more personalized treatments that improve the quality of life of patients. Overall, it qualitatively improves both the patient’s experience and the effectiveness of the diagnosis, above all thanks to the system's very high sensitivity and resolution, which reduce scan time and the dose of radiation received.
Equipment that reinforces the Clínic’s leadership in advanced diagnostic and treatment technology
Dr. Josep Maria Campistol, director general of the Clínic, highlights the hospital’s commitment to innovation, research and excellence in care. “At the Clínic, we have always tried to strike a balance between the patients' care needs and world-class scientific advances. The hospital’s strategic plan considers continued investment in innovation and highly complex technology to be a priority”.
Moreover, Dr. Salva Pedraza, director of the Clínic’s Diagnostic Imaging Centre, adds: “Along these lines, the nuclear medicine service has highly qualified medical specialists and completely renewed equipment with three SPECT/CT scanners, a densitometer, a mobile PET/CT unit and a recently incorporated state-of-the-art PET/CT unit. All of this, in order to respond to the increasingly demanding healthcare needs and to be able to participate in world-class research projects and clinical trials. ”
Finally, Alberto Martínez, director general of Siemens Healthineers, highlights the fact that “the installation of the Biograph Vision.X system at the Hospital Clínic is a significant milestone for precision medicine in Spain and in Europe” and adds that this technology will mark a turning point in patient care, reinforcing our commitment to innovation in the field of healthcare.
