On 9 May 2024, the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) honoured 128 professionals for achieving professional excellence in infectious diseases and providing significant service to this field. One of the people to be honoured was Josep Maria Miró. He was selected as a result of his career and his dedication to the field of infectious diseases.
Moreover, in 2023 he was honoured by the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID Fellow) being one of the few infectious disease doctors in Europe to have received both distinctions. “I am very pleased to have received both awards”, says Josep Maria Miró, “ it reflects the international recognition for the work we have carried out with the IDIBAPS and the Clínic endocarditis and HIV research teams”.
Applicants for IDSA Fellowship must be nominated by their peers and meet specified criteria that include continuing identification with the field of infectious diseases, national or regional recognition, and the publication of their scholarly work. Nominees are reviewed and elected by the ISDA Board of Directors. Fellows of ISDA work in many different settings, including clinical practice, teaching, research, public health and healthcare administration.
